Dear Parents, We continue to prepare for our written test which will be on Tuesday, March 31st.  I would like to remind students to get a blue or black white board marker if they haven't done so.   Some  students had asked me if they will need to get a white board eraser.  You may get one or tissue will simply do the erasing job on the white board marker.  We will use these tools to review for the written test on Monday.  I will let you know how the activity will turn out on Monday to practice for their writing and spelling skills in class.  There is no h.w. except to study for the test on Tuesday.   Have a good weekend!! Regards, Sylvia

H.W. - March 26th

Dear Parents,  We will be having our listening test tomorrow. Our writing test will be held on March 31st. I have asked the class to bring home their communication book, H.W. book, Reading Street, and Notebook to review for their upcoming tests. At the same time,  I would like all students bring in a blue or black white board marker. I understand one can easily buy a blue or black white board marker from any stationary stores in Taipei.   All students will get a mini white board from school.  We will be using these tools to practice our spelling skills and other in class activities. If there are any questions,  please feel free to contact me. Regards, Sylvia

Homework - March 13th

Dear Parents, We had a quiz earlier in the morning to test their spelling skills and unscrambling the sentences from week 4's weekly sentences.  I would like the students to make corrections by writing the words three times only if they have misspelled the words.  And the students need to recite and write the weekly sentences again.  Many students weren't familiar with these sentences.  They had stumbled in unscrambling the sentences on the quiz.  Many students had a hard time finishing the quiz within a period of class and had a hard time following instructions while taking the quiz.  Tomorrow,  we will be having our first PTA for this new semester.   I am looking forward to meeting all the parents of LOVE class 104. See you all tomorrow!!

March 12th

Dear Parents, We were able to make five sentences in class together to practice the usage of these new words.  We made sentences with the words, drum, dusk, hunt, must, and duck.  The class made very interesting sentences, especially on the word, duck.  For homework,  the class will make their own sentences using words from # 15 -18.  Tomorrow ,  we will have a spelling test to check on their spelling skills on the vocabulary.  The words will be coming from this week's production words and previous spelling words. I would suggest the class to review their communication book on the words,  weekly sentences and conversation.  I wouldn't worry if they have been reviewing and doing their homework over the past few days.

March 11th

Dear Parents, We have had another successful experience class today.  All students were enjoying themselves making their own teddy bear toast.  They were in good spirits in making this healthy snack food for themselves.  Teacher Ivy and I have taken individual pictures of the students with their lovely teddy bear toast.  For today's homework,  students would need to copy  recognition words from #10 -18 three times in their homework notebook. See you all on Saturday!

Homework March 10th

Dear Parents, I have returned the unit test to the class.  There were some happy faces and some sad faces.  As a whole, the class did well.  I had a two students with 99 %.  However,  there weren't any 100 %.  Some students didn't do well because they weren't able to finish this test within the given period.  I would say the test was rather long and we will shorten the next unit test.  Many students needed more time to finish it and not that they didn't know how to write the test.  I have asked students to get signatures from their parents as part of today's homework.    Please do not worry if they didn't do well on this test. It is a learning process for Grade 1 to take any tests and work on their time management. We will be working on building many of these skills to help improve their test scores and learning development. For today's homework,  please  sign the unit test and return it to me tomorrow. And make your own sentences from production words
Dear Parents, We have started our new story,  Animal Park today.     Many students were very excited to name many wild animals that they know.  We have learned many more animals today.  Animals from the forest, desert, grassland, water, cold climate, and underground animals.  For today's homework,  I would like the class to re-read Reading Street, pages 154 - 163, Animal Park.  Also,  they will need to write the production words, No. 1 -9 three times as their homework for today.  If there are any questions,  please feel free to ask me via this blog or e-mail me sylviawss@gmail.com Have a Nice Day!!

Unit Test and Home Work

Dear Parents, We will have our first Unit test - Get the Eggs,  tomorrow.  I have got a glimpse of the test.  The test is quite long and requires a lot of writing. All students need to know the spelling of the weekly vocabulary from Week 2 and 3.  Some of the questions on test would be like unscrambling the sentence, making sentences,  recognizing & making your own interrogative sentence, finding mistakes from the sentences,  recognizing the word with the picture and naming different kind of animals.   About yesterday's homework,   I think I wasn't too clear about it.  Many students didn't complete it. They will have to make ten sentences.  The words are No. 1 - 10 from week 3.  Therefore,  if  your boy or girl didn't write any of these sentences yesterday, please do so today as part of today's homework.  Aside from that,  all students needs to review their Reading Street - Get the Eggs & English Communication Book to study for the test tomorrow. We h

Homework

Dear Parents, There is a Unit Test this Friday.  We have been doing all sorts of activities to prepare for this test on Friday.  As it is their first test for this semester,  it is going to be a challenge for many students to learn to do the test and follow directions closely.  I will try my best to explain clearly in how to take the test and follow directions.  For today's homework,  I have assigned students to make 10 sentences from the weekly vocabulary.  They will make ten sentences using productions and recognition words.  (No. 1 - 10)  We will make some sentences together in class.  At the same time,   all students need to review the story - Get the Eggs,  recite conversation,  read weekly sentences and read and write #10-18. And that is all for today! Stay Warm!

Homework - March 3rd

Dear Parents, I have announced to the class that there is a unit test this Friday on Unit 1 - Get the Eggs.  We will be testing them on their spelling,  word and picture recognition(short e), and reading comprehension on the story that we have been reading.   I have sent out a worksheet on Get the Eggs.  The class needs to do page 1 and 2 for today.  At the same time,  all students needs to copy the weekly vocabulary words.  I have asked them to copy production words from # 1 -9 for today's h.w.  They will need to copy each word three times.  If there are any questions,  please feel free to let me know. Thank you!

Homework - March 2nd

Dear Parents, Today is the second day of March.  As it is the first day of  the week, many of us will have Monday blues.  I have assigned homework for the class.  I haven't assign a lot of homework.  However,  we are learning to make sentences on our own.  It is an important skill by making their own sentences instead of just copying and practicing their handwriting.  I would like quality sentences from the students and not quantity. Students would have to make 5 sentences on their own.  We did three sentences as a class.  They will  have to create their own sentences so that I will know if they really understand the meaning of the vocabulary (from week 2) and apply the meaning of the words in a written form. I have asked the class to recite the conversation, read weekly sentences, and make 5 sentences for today's homework.  Have a Good Day!
